Odessa Mission

Valentine's Day Special Event 2006

On Valentine's Day, there was a special program at Odessa's school # 75, which is a school for kids with learning disabilities. It is the school KRCC raised money for through the Christmas pageant. John attended the program in order to make contact with the kids and staff, as well as pass out little gifts from KRCC. Lyudmilla is a very pleasant blonde-haired woman who teaches at the school. In addition to her work at the school, she organizes all of their special holiday programs and she really does an excellent job. John recently went to see her at the school to propose a joint effort regarding the upcoming Easter program and she seemed very open to the possibility. Moreover, at the Valentine's Day program, John had the chance to publicize the KRCC kids' matinee held every Saturday plus he handed out free tickets to everyone.

Singing love songs - Some of the kids singing during the celebration.

More love songs - A closer look at the nine kids singing during the celebration.

Hair-dressing contest - Two guys competed in braiding the girls' hair but nobody won.  In other words and please forgive John's pun,It was a tie.

Passing out KRCC gifts - Although the gifts were just simple tokens of love, they were definitely appreciated.  As the old saying goes, "It is the thought that counts.

Unwrapping gifts - The value of a gift is not measured in monetary terms but in knowing that someone cares and these small gifts were given in love and will surely open a door at the school for the Odessa Mission.

Valentine's Day audience - A shot of the small auditorium during the performance.  The smiles on their faces show they are enjoying the show.

Valentine's Day audience watching performance - Notice that the show had some serious moments also and the audience is glued to the performance.

Lyudmilla singing - Lyudmilla not only organizes the pageants but also actively participates.

Lyudmilla in action - Here we see Lyudmilla helping dress one of the boys for his role in the program.  Love is a serious business but also can be a lot of fun.

Real guys in action - Only real guys can dress up like a girl and sing about love and here we see four great examples.
