Odessa Mission
Al Kunkel's Visit
Kid's Shopping - trip to the
local Odessa McDonald's Restaurant. Here we see the five kids
(plus Ira) that were treated to "anything they wanted to order"
with the stipulation that they must eat what they order. (L to R
back row) Sergei, Nastya, Ira, and Andre. (L to R front row)
Nella and Elijah.
McDonald's Restaurant - This is one of five or six McDonald's in Odessa and
is located near the City Centre area.
Posing after McDonald's - Each of the kids was very appreciative of the
food and although this photo doesn't show their gratitude (maybe
they were too full), they all had excellent manners.
Candy Time - What better way to top off a meal than with some candy.
A big thank you to the folks that gave the kids this opportunity and
put smiles on the KRCC kid's faces.
Shopping Trip
After the trip to McDonald's Restaurant, I took the five kids to what I
would describe as an upscale Toys R Us type store. It had everything
imaginable from kids clothing to all sorts of toys.
The kids were allowed to select anything they wanted as long as it did
not exceed a $30 limit. The first four photos are of the kids
trying to make a decision as to what they wanted to buy.
After I bought what they had selected, we walked back to KRCC and the
next three photos are of the kids opening their presents. All
three boys selected remote control cars (with the purchase of batteries
the amount came within cents of $30). Nella selected a personal
daily "Journal" that had stickers and things that reminded me of a
baby book I have seen with stickers and places for dates for special
events (e.g., first smile, first shots, first tooth date, etc.). Nastya
opted to buy clothing since she was a little old for "toys".
The next photo shows Andre and Elijah chasing each other's car in what
resembled a small version of demolishin derby with Nella sometimes being
a very tempting target also. The last photo is of the kids and me
standing on the steps outside KRCC as the kids were getting ready to go
home. The kids had a blast and so did I. Praise the Lord!!
Andre with sandwich - Andre was always looking out for his little sister
Nella and I noticed that while he was eating his second sandwich he was
helping Nella eat all her French fries (because his were already gone).
In line at McDonald's - As you can see, the restaurant is very clean
and other than the signs being in Ukrainian and the people speaking
something other than English it looked like many McDonald's in
America. Seven of us ate for a total of $30.60 which is less than
$4.40 each. The menu items are basically the same including the
"Big Mac".
Kids at McDonald's - Although Andre looks sleepy (I just happened to
catch him blinking), he was a typical growing boy and ordered and ate
TWO sandwiches (one I think was a Big Mac).
