Odessa Mission

New Home

John and Ira moved into a new apartment on July 8th so their address and telephone number changed:

28 Kompozitor Nishinski Apt 61,
Odessa, Ukraine 65020 ,
Telephone #: 011 380 47 726 5120

The new apartment is about 130 square feet (equates to extra space equal to a room of 10 ft by 13 ft) larger than their previous apartment and is much more modern and nicer. It comes with a corresponding increase in price from under $300 to around $450 (plus utilities and telephone in both cases). This apartment is on the seventh floor where their old apartment was on the 4th floor. The apartment is a little further from KRCC than their other apartment.

Front door entrance way - The foyer is larger than their old apartment. The door on the left side of the picture will be used as a storage area for the owner so it will be locked for the most part

Living room - This room is a bit bigger than their old apartment living room.

Bedroom with balcony - The bedroom is much bigger than the old apartment and also has a balcony.

Bathroom - The bathroom is a little larger but more modern than the one in the old apartment.

Looking left from kitchen balcony - Notice how old the buildings in this picture look in comparison to the new apartment in the next picture.

Left of apartment building - A brand new building (left side of picture) stands in stark contrast to the older buildings on the right side of the picture.

Kitchen looking toward entrance way - About the same size as their other apartment but much nicer looking.

Looking right from kitchen balcony - The street is blocked off to the left because new apartments are going up which means that there's no flow through traffic.

Looking directly out from kitchen balcony - Directly across the street from our balcony is a small part of the maritime academy grounds. You'll notice the natural gas lines above the ground which is a true mark of Soviet architecture.

Kitchen with balcony - Although the other apartment had an enclosed balcony (although the window would open) where clothes could be hung to dry, this balcony still needs considerable work and is not enclosed. Since this balcony doesn't provide much of a view, the owner probably felt no need to invest any money in finishing it.

Toilet - The bathroom and toilet areas are separate which is the norm in Odessa (and probably in Ukraine and even in Europe). Ira and John have gotten so used to having a toilet without a toilet seat (that's right - just cold hard porcelain) in the old apartment that this should really be an adjustment for them. However,I'm sure they will survive.
